ALTRUISTIC'S STORY

It seems like every Super Bowl has one of those commercials that stick with you, sometimes for reasons that are completely unrelated to the product advertised. This year’s Super Bowl was no exception; for me it was the Alfa Romeo commercial. In case you missed it, here is what it had to say:

‘When we were young, we wanted to be epic. We rode on the backs of dragons and dreamt of flying cars. We were taught that power was nothing more than being the strongest guy in the room. But brute strength was not enough, we had to learn grace. We found that staying true to who you are is all that matters. That balance isn’t found. It’s created. And the ability to reinvent ourselves is the most human trait of all. All this, to grow fearless, so when we got the chance we could deliver that flying car, and once again ride on the backs of dragons.’

‘When we were young, we wanted to be epic. We rode on the back of dragons and dreamt of flying cars.’ That is a powerful statement, but isn’t it true? I don’t ever remember dreaming of one day working fifty hours a week to barely pay a mortgage and put food on the table, but I do remember wanting to be epic. I remember wanting to leave a legacy and wanting to make my parents proud. As far as I can tell, the only people we remember are those that created opportunity for others and those that committed unspeakable atrocities.

I wanted to build something that would create opportunities for others. I believe that if I am able to provide stronger, more reliable returns to investors, that they might be able to have some weight lifted from their shoulders. My hope is that they might become freer to explore the future that they had dreamt of when they were young. My second mission is to help those not fortunate enough to invest in their own future. For this reason, Altruistic Asset Management will reserve the first 25% of the management company’s profit from each year and donate that money into a private foundation. Once large enough, The Altruistic Educational and Charitable Foundation will provide scholarships and other charitable needs for those in need, so they too can fulfill their epic dreams.

‘We were taught that power was nothing more than being the strongest guy in the room. But brute strength was not enough, we had to learn grace. We found that staying true to who you are is all that matters.’ Investors can find an endless amount of REITs or mutual funds to invest it, but strength isn’t always enough. We have formed relationships with local real estate developers that give us opportunities to invest in profitable projects not available to the public. Since we are not driven by quarterly results, but rather long-term sustainable growth, we are able to pick and choose which opportunities we feel are a great fit for our partners and pass on the rest. We do not feel a need to carelessly invest in projects just to show Wall Street that we are actively investing.

‘Balance isn’t found. It’s created. And the ability to reinvent ourselves is the most human trait of all.’ I wanted to create an investment tool to balance any investor’s portfolio. I do not think we should be anyone’s only investment vehicle, but rather a part of a much larger, balanced picture. We are committed to continuous improvement and self-evaluation. I’m not claiming that we will be perfect all of the time, but when we’re not we’ll reinvent ourselves, as industry trends dictate, in order to continually offer our partners the best possible real estate solution.

‘All this, to grow fearless, so when we got the chance we could deliver that flying car, and once again ride on the backs of dragons.’ With Altruistic Asset Management, we have delivered that flying car, and together we will remember what it was like to dream epically and ride on the backs of dragons.
